Really Pathetic

I am both sad and happy this morning. Happy because Lance will be back on the Tour de France this year, and sad because it is the last time. Really, without him, the Tour would lose a good deal of interest. I know I'm shamelessly selfish when I say this. The guy is now 34, and has been running since he's 20. He has some 10 Tours under his belt, and every one of them is a sum of sufferings I cannot even imagine. So he's deserved the right to stop, whatever happens this year. Before him, and the lessons he taught, a Tour Champion was expected to perform till he ran in one Tour too many, offering the heartless crowds who'd cheered him the spectacle of his fall from the top. The grace and the courage he showed in the trial were the final marks of his being a great champion, a seal that eventually legitimized all the wins he had seemingly so effortlessly garnered before... But I have the odd feeling this won't be the case for Lance, and that he'll win his 7th Tour, setting an all time unbreakable record. Anyway, I'll support him once again this year. And I am all the more sorry we won't have the Tour in Bordeaux this year...
