Oh Great Dashukta! Please shed the illumination of your wisdom upon the darkness of my ignorance.
The scientists of our age now tell us that Dark Energy is causing the universe to expand. I usually ignore these lesser beings and the nonsense that they mumble. However, I am troubled because I believe that this is affecting my life. You see Great One, the universe is not the only thing expanding. So is my waistline.
Is Dark Energy making me fat?

Well, first off, I like the flattery. Keep it up.
Yeah, Dark Energy is one of the theories of why the universe is expanding (of course the real reason is much more complex--far to complex for mere humans to comprehend). But, don't poo-poo the scientists too quick. They're a pretty sharp bunch and certainly no much of a lesser being than yourself, mortal.
But as to the question you actually asked. Your waistline is expanding due to energy (stored energy that is--stored in the chemical bonds of triglycerides). This is not, however, the "Dark Energy" that was sneezed out by the great Galactic Snail (oops, I've said too much). So, no. Dark Energy is not making you fat, your own metabolism is. Try cutting down on refined sugars and increasing your daily activity. Take the stairs instead of the elevator occasionally. Clean your toenails with a coconut husk. Dance a jig with a four-foot 1/2" PVC pipe balanced on your nose. And for a greak workout, try to measure the width of the stripes on an unsedated tiger with three-inch piece of fishing line--you'll lose the inches fast!
